Let’s be honest. Life’s a lot right now.

Balancing work, family, health, bills, expectations, and everything in between adds up. And while we’re pretty good at pushing through, that doesn’t mean we should always have to.

That’s why we want to take a minute this Mental Health Awareness Month to say something simple but important: Your mental health matters. It matters just as much as your physical health. It’s not something to power through, brush off, or “deal with later.” It’s something to check in on, talk about, and take care of.

Numbers That Tell a Story

People stand in line and demonstrate the widespread issue of mental health.

If you’ve felt stressed, anxious, or burned out lately. You’re not alone.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI):

  • 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness each year.
  • 1 in 6 youth aged 6–17 experiences a mental health disorder annually.
  • And more than 50% of people with mental illness don’t receive treatment.

That’s not because people don’t want help. It’s often because they don’t know where to start, or they feel like they can’t take that first step.

“Toughing it Out” is Overrated

No one should have to be a superhero at work (or anywhere else). Sometimes, the strongest thing you can do is admit when you’re not okay, and then take the next step forward.

We’ve made it a priority to support our team in every way we can, including mental wellness. That means:

  • Health benefits that cover mental health care, including virtual visits with a therapist through Teladoc. Our team can also make appointments through our partnership with Spire Wellness, where they have access to health coaches and can also book therapy sessions (4 each year on us).
  • Plenty of encouragement to take time off, because burnout doesn’t help you, your team, or anybody else. We offer a generous paid time-off package and encourage a healthy work-life balance.
  • A workplace culture that’s built around real people, not perfect ones. Checking in, helping out, and making space for each other is just part of what we do. After all, one of our core values is that we’re a family.
  • Wellness initiatives through our Spire platform, like monthly walking challenges that make it easier to move your body, connect with coworkers, and clear your head. There are also daily stretch breaks, the wellness portal, and a whole committee ready to help employees with their wellness journey and needs.
  • Financial wellness support through Your Money Line, because money stress is real, and getting a handle on it can make a huge difference for your mental health, too.

We’ve always said we’re built on kitchen table values, and one of those is caring for each other like family. That includes checking in, listening, and showing up for one another.

Bottom Line

A man sees his doctor to discuss his mental health.

If you need help, talk to your doctor. Talk to a therapist. Talk to someone you trust. If you’re in crisis or need immediate support, you can call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, 24/7.

  • It’s okay to not be okay.
  • You’re not weak for asking for help. You’re strong for doing it.
  • You’re not alone, and you never have to be.

One Last Thing

A woman takes a mental health break to go for a walk.

Taking care of your mental health isn’t selfish. It’s smart. It makes you a better teammate, parent, partner, friend, and human. So go for that walk, take that mental health day, or finally schedule that appointment you’ve been putting off.

We’re all in this together.
