Frequently Asked Questions
You ask. We Answer
Here, we’ve rounded up the answers to the things people ask us most.
Did School Datebooks get bought out?
No. School Datebooks is where our whole company started, back in 1985 at Sharon Powers' kitchen table in Lafayette, Indiana. As we grew, School Datebooks became part of a bigger family of brands under one parent name, SDI Innovations. Today, School Datebooks is one of four brands under that umbrella, "the brand that started it all," still offering the same great products you know and love, just under a name that reflects everything we've grown into.
Is SDI Innovations a new company?
Not at all. SDI Innovations has been in business for more than 40 years, serving all 50 states and 23 countries. What's new is simply the name you're seeing more often. Sharon Powers started this company; her son Tim helped grow it into a national brand, and Tim leads it today. It's the same company, the same leadership family, and the same commitment to schools, just presented under one unified name.
Will my school's rep or point of contact change?
No. Your relationship with your rep and our team stays exactly the same. We're still the same people who've been helping schools stay organized for over 40 years. If you've ordered from us before, you can reach out the exact same way you always have.
Will my contract, pricing, or billing terms change?
No changes there either, including that you won’t need a new W-9. Your existing agreements, pricing, and billing terms carry forward exactly as they are. The only thing that might look different is the name on your invoice: SDI Innovations, our parent brand, now handling billing for School Datebooks and our other product lines.
Will the name on my invoice be different now?
All payments have already been made to SDI Innovations. Nothing about your order, your account, or your service changed, just the company name reflecting the full family of solutions we now offer, including datebooks, folders, and custom school graphics.
Is School Datebooks going away?
No. School Datebooks isn't disappearing; it's actually described on our own site as "the brand that started it all." It remains one of our core product lines, labeled and branded exactly as you know it, and it's simply sold today under the SDI Innovations name.
Will my datebook's design, cover, or customization options change?
No. Your datebook designs, cover options, and customization choices remain exactly the same. We still offer the same range of primary/elementary, middle/high school, and college datebook styles and covers you've always had access to.
Are the datebooks still made the same way, by the same team?
Yes. The same team that's been perfecting school datebooks since 1985 is still behind every order. Our focus, as it's always been, is helping schools and students stay organized, and that hasn't changed with the name.
Will delivery timelines or ordering deadlines change?
No. We know how much schools are juggling, especially around the start of the year, and our delivery process hasn't changed. As one school told us, they received their order before the first day with no problems: that kind of reliability is still our standard.
Do I need to set up a new account or re-submit my order information?
No new setup required. Your existing account and order history carry over. If you have any questions about your specific order or account, reach out the same way you always have, by phone at 800-705-7526 or email at info@sdiinnovations.com.
What else does SDI Innovations offer besides datebooks?
Quite a bit. Beyond datebooks, we offer vinyl and cardstock folders, our Signature Line of custom school graphics, wall decals, floor mats, banners, and yard signs, all designed to help schools stay organized and show off their school spirit and pride.
Can I order folders, signage, or wall decals from the same rep who handles my datebooks?
Yes. Since School Datebooks, folders, and custom graphics are all under the SDI Innovations umbrella, your existing point of contact can help you explore any of those product lines. There's no need to start a new relationship for a new product category.
Does SDI Innovations work with organizations outside of K-12 schools?
Yes. While schools are our core focus, our broader family of brands also supports other organizations with needs like STEM curricula and technology, event management software, and custom signage. The same worry-free approach applies no matter who we're working with.
What's the difference between SDI Innovations, STEM Education Works, Eventlink®, and School Datebooks?
We're actually four brands under one family. SDI Innovations is the parent brand and your go-to for datebooks, folders, and custom graphics. STEM Education Works focuses on hands-on STEM curriculum and technology. Eventlink® is an event management platform that simplifies school scheduling and communication. And School Datebooks is the original brand that started it all, now synonymous with our parent brand.
If I only ever bought datebooks, why would I look at anything else you offer?
Because the same team you already trust for datebooks also builds folders and custom school graphics designed to solve everyday school challenges, keeping papers organized, adding school spirit to hallways, or welcoming visitors with custom signage. It's one relationship covering more of what your school needs.
Who started this company, and why?
Sharon Powers started School Datebooks in 1985 at her kitchen table in Lafayette, Indiana, with a typewriter and a belief that students could benefit from better organization. That simple idea grew into a company that now serves schools in all 50 states and 23 countries.
How long has SDI Innovations actually been around, if the name is new to me?
The company itself has been around since 1985, over 40 years. What's newer is simply how often you're seeing the SDI Innovations name, as our product family expanded beyond datebooks into folders, graphics, and more.
What hasn't changed about how you work with schools?
Our focus. From day one, the goal has been to help schools and students stay organized and help administrators focus on their students and staff rather than logistics. That mission hasn't moved, even as our product lineup has grown.
How far in advance should we plan our next datebook or signage order?
We recommend planning early, especially for start-of-year items like datebooks. Schools that plan ahead consistently tell us their orders arrive well before students walk through the door, with no last-minute scrambling.
Can one order combine products from different categories, like datebooks and folders?
Yes. Since datebooks, folders, and custom graphics are all part of the same SDI Innovations family, your rep can help you combine categories into a single, streamlined order.
Who should I loop in at my school if we want to explore a new product category?
Whoever currently manages your School Datebooks or SDI Innovations account is the right first call. They already know your school and can connect you with the right resources for folders, graphics, signage, or any other product line.
